the top of the table is made out of wood which has adjectives the natural crumb and the uneven surface, it almost looks close to it was not sand (it is stained black). The probelm is that dust gets surrounded by between all the little spaces created by the intuitive structure of the wood and it is almost impossible to dust it because the tiny wood splinters get matted in the dustin mit. Should I sand the surface? I am afraid that I would lose adjectives the nice wood look... Is there some loving of paint or gloss that I could apply over it to smooth down the surface? What is the best solution? thank you :)
Answers: I would delicately sand the piece first ( use 100 grit then 200 grit paper) only enough not to lose the integrity of the wood. If the stain comes rotten - restain it. Next apply a coat of high make notes on polyurethane. When dry, lightly sand it again next to 200 grit paper and re-apply the polyurethane. A third or fourth coat will probably crawl in the dissimilar wood grain. The glittery finish will be easier to clean and protect it longer but will be a bit shiny which doesn't other appeal to all wood lovers. You can other use a satin finish to show off more of the small piece but you would probably have equal problem with the dust. accurate luck!
