that stuff penetrates to the plaster.

You wont. Paint over the grease first with a Unibond mix before you repaint or it will come through again.
I would think to wipe over with a solvent, ie evo stick thinners or maybe white spirit, to remove the grease and then to paint over. If that doesnt work, do the thinners thing then apply stain block, then paint

I agree with jeephandle, I've always used Goo Gone. You can find it at Wal-Mart or probably True Value/ Ace Hardware. Always worked for that and many other things.
I read somewhere that cigarette lighter fluid or nail varnish remover would remove it but I haven't tried it yet.
