Do it in antique kitchen stuff.
Hang your skillits from something above your island or counter, you can hang ANYTHING on the wall. Look for pictures online of old kitchen appliances or old ads for food adn frame them and hang in your kitchen. You can frame old silverwear, use your grandma's old tableclotho on the table, Very neat kitchen! Have funadn be creative!! Go to a junk store or a garage sale to find funky kitchen stuff that no-one would expect to see hanging on the wall!

Black and timber make for a good Asian theme, get some red glass vases and some wooden ornaments to set the mood off.

I like a cheery kitchen, so I need a bright color. Perhaps a splash of something like a bright blue or magenta or yellow (not a lot, but maybe a trim or something, just to shake it up) might be good.
I had a friend who made a quilt that was all black and white fabrics, but she put these marvelous stars in all kinds of bright colors, and it was stunning!
I say chilli peppers like in New Mexico.... I think that is really cool and easy to find things to go in your kitchen.... I see chilli peppers everywhere

Roosters. There are some absolutely beautiful roosters in stores now, some of them look almost real. They have great colors from a metallic black/green to rusty red and black and even blue.
My second favorite is apples. They are very cheerful and lots of apple stuff is available.
Your iron skillets would look great with either.

Wow, black is a rather unusual color for a kitchen, but I think you can make it work. Perhaps using a theme of "Tuscany" or a rustic Italian countryside villa look. The walls will be the basis of offsetting the dramatic influence of the black and hopefully light oak cabinetry. Pick a soft color in cool tones that mimic evening dusk. Incorporate as much complimentary color with your accessories that pull the look together. Iron skillets (again black) might be to much alone. Find some weathered copper or brass cookware that you won't be using, direct the focus to interest rather than overwhelming. Look into various interior design websites that feature a rustic french or Italian theme. Try creative lighting to enhance the effect.

Sounds like it will look fabulous! Colors for the walls pale yellow, or very light Sage, great backdrop for the cabinets and counter. Maybe border if you are thinking along this line with maroon as part of the color mixture. When you get the walls done and border if you like, that will be the answer to the kitchen theme. The black skillets hanging from a black wrought Iron ceiling rack. Lighting fixtures could also be black wrought Iron, or accented with black metal. This color and accent theme can be used in a country or modern theme. Have fun....

Check out pot racks on www.overstock.com to hang your skillets. They have some that are black which would go with your countertop. Also try E-bay for pot racks. I saw some nice wrought iron pot racks on E-bay. (I'm in the planning stages of redesigning my kitchen right now.)

I'm going to have to disagree with a lot of the answers you already have. I think a bright color would look terrible. In my opinion, a rich, deep color would be best, or a dark neutral color. Maybe maroon or brown, or some other very rich color. It would go best with the black and the oak.
I think a great theme for rich colors would be Asian, Cafe, or Winery. Those themes are becoming more popular and you shouldn't have any trouble finding what you would need to pull off any of those themes.
Tuscany style would work, especially if you are wanting to display skillets.
You could also add texture to the walls.
