I want to change the color of an already glazed ceramic tile.?

What type of paint should I use that will adhere to this suface?

Answers:
Don't bother with Lowe's or Home Depot. The person on the phone won't know anything about what you're talking about and you'll only have a 50/50 shot of getting anyone in their paint department who has a clue, either.

You'll need to sand the tile a bit to cut down the sheen. This is going to take some serious doing because the glazing on those tiles is REALLY tough. You're not going to sand it all off, but just scuff sanding it could be a serious project in itself.

The coating you'll need to use is an epoxy. That's the only coating that is either tough enough for use on tile or will adhere to the tile in the first place. You'll want a chemical cure epoxy, not an air cure.

A chemical cure epoxy will come with an activator in a seperate container. Mix the two together extremely well, usually using a drill mixer, not just a paint paddle. The paddle won't mix it well enough and you'll end up with a gummy mess that doesn't ever harden correctly.

Use the epoxy in a very well ventilated area. Also, watch out for the humidity level and temperature wherever you decide to apply it. Even though the epoxy is a chemical cure, temp and humidity can still affect the outcome.

Talk with someone at your local paint store about the project. They're usually pretty good about walking you through stuff like this or about helping you decide when you should leave it up to a licensed and bonded professional.

I don't really know the answer to this question. But you can call your local Home Depot or Lowe's and ask and they could tell you.
