What is the best floor for a high traffic big family?

what's the best flooring for low maintenance, durable and something that won't scratch or leave marks? I'm thinking bamboo but it gets cold in the winter and carpet's not all that geat.

Answers:
Basically any hardwood will be sufficient. No matter what kind, or how hard of a wood you get, It's the finish that will wear out and scratch. You obviously don't want to go with any kind of tile (most durable), as it will be colder in the winter than anything else. Probably your best bet would be to choose a hardwood you like, have the most durable finish they offer applied, and then use throw rugs and carpet runners in high traffic areas.

Bamboo, it looks like hard word, but is cheaper and holds up great with low maintenance.

I have wood laminate floors, I've had two dogs and a 1 yr old on them for 3 yrs and they still look perfect, yet look like expensive real wood floors. I use a swiffer both dry and wet every couple days then just mop with pine sol every couple weeks.
Depending on your budget there are a lot of great choices in today's market
#1 concrete scored and stained floors are indestructable and have a great amount of style with little or no upkeep.www.kemiko.com

#2 laminate flooring such as Wilsonarts wood looking series wears like iron for commercial or residential use. Check out www.wilsonart.com

#3 If budgets will allow porcelain 20x20 or 16 x16 " tiles with a laticrete spectra lock grout will last for an eternity and the grout never stains.Dal tile has some great tile choices.

#4 Wooden floors would also work but make sure that you go for the distressed hand scraped look or be prepared to have fine scratches especially if you have small children or pets.I really like Anderson Floors hand scraped series. www.andersonwoodfloors.com

I am a professional interior designer and have 4 kids of my own so I need a floor to really hold up. Good Luck.
