Which is the better type of wood for a fence in Florida, cedar or pine?

Pine is more common, but cedar is more insect resist. If termites are native to your area, as well as a lot of other nasty critters so I would recommend you pay more for the cedar fence. Cedar can repel snakes, fleas, flies ticks, mosquito, scorpion, chiggers, mites, ants, termites, moths, grubs. It is considered an organic pest control measure. You may not have to stain the cedar fence either.
Southern Yellow Pine will probably be cheaper, but it will require staining. You will probably want to use a cedar based stain to preserve it and keep it insect free. If you have had wild fires in your area then you might want to look into a fire resistant stain.
The best thing to do is to go to your local Home Depot and ask them about the difference, and check out their prices.

I would vote for Pine, especially due to the changing moisture in Florida.

Personally I would coat the entire fence with the JASCO after it is up if you want the bugga to last a long time. Especially all the cuts if you cut any boards down and nailed (or screws) spots. Deck screws are pricey but you won't get rust bleed or streaks.
Cedar is always a better choice it holds up better than pine . But it is more expensive but worth it. Just make sure it is sealed properly for all weather conditions.
I don't know were some of these people got the idea that cedar won't rot, it most definitely will rot and almost as fast as pine, however cedar is impervious to wood eating insects which is VERY important in FL, youall got some serious bugs down there. I would use cedar and make sure i sealed the posts before i set them and seal the fence when your done.
You could use a mix of materials such as CCA treated posts and cedar panels.
