Has anyone taken up their carpet & painted the wooden subfloors? How did it turn out?

I saw this done on Trading Spaces and would like to try it in my own home. Wondering what others experiences have been with painting wooden subfloors and if it turned out well and how it held up. I have a lot of antiques so I want it to look "rustic", but can't afford hardwood at this time.

Answers:
dont try it ..trading spaces does a lot of things for the short term cosmetics. There is no good paint that you could paint a sub floor with that could endore the foot traffic. as a contractor i see some strange things but never this. For one .if you have baseboards in that room , the sub floor will be lower than the baseboard and you will have a funny looking gap between the two. since sub floors are attached to floor trusses or joists on the underside, every time your house moves, as in seasonal setteling, you will have a wavy looking floor.I could go on with several more reasons not to do it , but i think you get the idea. You may not be able to afford hardwood, but look at pergo ,it may fit your budget.
