I am building a pergola on my patio. My patio happens to be above the underground garage and is therefore composed on reinforced concrete, waterproofing and most likely some layer of sand and then these 2'x2' concrete pavers. I can not see any other method of attaching the pergola post to the ground, other then screwing a metpost to the pavers to hold the post. So the question is. Is screwing and aluminum post box to pavers and acceptable method of holding the pergola steady?

The 2x2 concrete pavers are not thick enough to hold/support a pergola . You could get decorative Pottery big enough to fit it into and then pour sand into the pott and water it down even to give it some weight .On top of that you can put your dirt for the flowers. Depending on which end you will put it you can also tie the pergola down onto the railing of your patio. When the wind blows it won't take off on you .

If the paver isn't attached, I wouldn't. You're better off building a support frame for the posts and tying down the frame. Pull up the pavers and see whats under there than you can attach to.
