Any tips on removing the "new" smell from carptet? I mean the chemical smell?
Answers:
Try having your new carpet steam cleaned. The smell you're experiencing is "off-gassing" and can be very annoying to folks with sensitivity to it. In the future insist that the carpet installers unroll the carpet at their shop for a couple of days prior to the installation and the smell will not be as pronounced.

the vaccuming carpet sprays.. spray it, let it sit for 5-10 minutes then vaccum
I had the same problem when we moved into our new home. What finally took the smell out was kitty litter, the clay type, it absorbs smells. We sprinkled it on the carpet before going to bed and the next morning vacuumed it up. We had to do it twice to remove all the smell.
Certain plants will also help remove the smell. They produce more oxygen into the air, helping to counteract the off gassing. It doesnt happen overnight but is a good way to improve the air quality. Mostly green leaf plants, rubber tree plants are a good example.
Did you move into the room yet? The best bet is to keep the windows open for as long as you can - ventilation is key as the chemicals in the carpet need to off-gas. Masking the smell by cleaning the carpet isn't really going to do too much to the smell because chemically, the plastics need to "breathe" a bit for the smell to go away. Carpet is not the friendliest stuff for the environment... you may not want to move in for several days after installation and subject yourself to the vapors as they are an irritant to many people.
steam clean the carpet and open every window/door to your house - if you have an attic fan, turn it on!!
