Has any one an idea on the cost of home additions(price square foot) ?

I WOULD LIKE TO ENCLOSE A PATIO AND ADD ON TO A MASTER BEDROOM. HAS ANY DONE THIS AND HOW MUCH DID IT COST YOU? HAS ANY ONE DONE IT THEMSELVES?

When I started this project we were at $100 per foot and now most are getting quotes of $250-300 per foot - in two years. I'm in Hawaii where construction has skyrocketed but prices have gone up everywhere thanks to China and India.

Minimize the amount of customization and work within dimensional lumber sizes. And decide on all windows, doors and other finishes BEFORE you start. Changes during the process will hurt you - three fold expense.

When I say work with dimensional lumber I mean...

Okay this wall can be 9 feet wide. Cut it down to 8 feet because that extra foot will be the most expensive foot in the wall. Cut 13 down to 12. Cut 15 down to 14 or 12.

If you have storage get all the doors and windows on site. And do as much of the job as you can yourself.
