What are the negatives of a smooth cooktop range?

I just got a smooth cooktop this summer and I'm not sure I like it. The main downside for me is that I find it super hard to keep clean. I get these burn rings that don't seem to go away no matter how much I scrub them.

If your refering to Induction Heat:
Don't let any kind of plastic get on the cooktop while the burners are on, this will totally destroy it.
You have to buy the whole top for a replacement.
While it does heat up alot quicker, nothing can replace a good ole fashioned gas cooktop.
Induction top stoves generate heat magnetically directly into the cookware which transmits the heat to the food. With induction cooking the pan itself is heated, not the stove top. The cookware used on this type of cook-top needs to be magnetic and have an absolutely flat bottom.
So be prepared to buy new pots and pans.

It's easier to control heat w/ gas. Other than that, I love it.
We have used a smooth top for years. Takes some getting used to in that it heats slower and cools slower than gas, or electric coils. Be sure you have good pans that are flat on the bottom for good contact.
Once your are used to the heating and cooling process there are no negatives. Easy to clean and basically cooks the same.
When you accidently leave it on and put your hand on it forgetting it's not a counter..
Actually, they are very good.
When food gets burned on it is hard to clean.
