what is 220-thread-count cotton? I'm trying to buy some sheets that are this material, are they warm or fresh?

Answers:
You can't go wrong with natural fabrics. They are long lasting, very comfortable and get softer after washings and if you have allergies they can be laundered in very hot water which kills dust mites. They will keep you cool in summer because they asorb moisture and therefore keep perspiration away from your skin. They will keep you warm in winter for the same reason.
If I were you I would try to invest just a little bit more and try to get at least a 300 count cotton, which I find more comfortable and smoother. It will cost a bit more but will also last longer.

some folks judge the quality of bed sheets by the thread count. 220 threads per inch is low but very common. I have some 800 count sheets and they are very comfortable. Soft and smooth. For the extra money, however, I doubt that they are worth it.

I love the ones sold @ wal-mart that are like t-shirts fabric, they are sooo comfy and not as expensive so i guess its a matter of likes.
220 thread count is the thread count per square inch, I just purchased four sets from JC Penny and they are nice and fresh, and they have a good color selection, I bought them to replace JC Penny sheets that are over 30 years old, so that should tell you something about how they wear, and the top sheets and pillow cases on the old sets are still good!
On the new sets I bought they have elastic all the way around the sides and I like this feature because they don't slip off on the corners. Good Luck in your quest for new sheets!
