They should be facing away from an entrance to indicate that they are entering a good place if they face a door it's supposed to mean that they want to leave meaning it is not a nice place

East, and the ornaments are supposed to have their trunk in the air. I don't know how I know this. My head is full of useless information.
They are supposed to face the main entrance into the room. If it's the front room, they should face the front door; if it's a back room, they should face the back door. Always, it's the main entrance through which people come.
to be 100% sure I would think you'd want to ask the elephant,what direction it prefers to face
backsides face doors, windows and the room. That's how it's supposed to be, and for luck, too.
The more you have the more luck you're supposed to have, especially when the trunks up and curved and he's facing out or backwards.
