Any original ideas for a beach-themed bathroom?

You could go two ways with this: you could do classic beach... white with navy or light blue... kind of a Nautica, Hampton's beach house look. Or you could go with bright, fun colors.
For the classic beach look, paint the walls white and purchase shells, sand and simple glass vases from a craft store. Arrange the glass vases with sand and sea shells in them around the bathroom. Cover a large oval mirror in shells or add a bench if you have room with blue or beachy looking pillows.
For the fun bright scheme... accent a white wall with a wall trim (see home depot or lowes for some ideas) and hang bright beachy posters or small framed works of art in the bathroom. Target has some fun ones.
Hang a few brightly colored ribbons on the wall and purchase a few silk flower hair clips (I recommend Breezy Beach Wear's hair clips at www.breezybeachwear.com) and clip them all the way down the ribbon. Your girls can choose which clip matches their outfit for the day, but it also works as room decor.
Have fun!

I'd go for a soft or muted blue with sand colored shower curtain... Adhere flip flops in all sorts of colors on the walls like they are walking all around the room- I'd use shadow boxes to frame a pail or little shovel, oversized seastars or seashells...
Great idea! I did that in my bathroom. You can get some nice shower curtains with sea life on them, use a large fish bowl or brandy snifter & put shells in it, use a large shell for a soap dish: Home Depot has cheap nice wall borders with sea life, too. You can even get some mobiles with sea life or shells or hang a small kite or stuffed (plush) fish from the ceiling. Another fun thing would be to use sponge & dab the walls with sandy colors on lower parts, then move toward blues as you get higher on the walls, so it looks totally like you're in a lagoon.
beachballs, surfboards, bodyboards, little beach fence around the wall, shells, a kite, flip flops, bermuda shorts, a pale and shovel, a sand castle and anything else that you might see at the beach.
