How giant should wainscoating be?
The house is VERY old, 128 years and I am pretty certian the previous owners never removed a layer of wall composition...I just removed no smaller amount then 15 layer. This has moved out the plaster walls very rough, so the difficult the wainscoating, the less wall I own to repair.
Is there a nonspecific rule of thumb as to how high I can put the wainscoating in the past it looks silly?
Answers: I had a similar situation surrounded by my 150 year old home. I own 11' ceilings. In the bedroom, I go up 8' to install the trim piece. It looks fantastic. Also, not sure what kind of baseboard you own or will install, but to save even more endeavour, you can install an 8-12 inch baseboard. The taller base covers more nouns and is cheaper by the square foot than wainscoat.
generally it is 32 - 36 inches, but I hold seen it as big as 48" in 9 & 10' rooms.
per norm using stool rail IS to protect walls from bench scuffs.
