Color combinations... any suggestions?

I have a double wide open modular home that is from the 70's. Trouble is... it is FULL of that really really fantastic wood paneling. I was looking for the cheapest fix for my problem, near the least amount of time invested as possible. I contemplate I have come to the conclusion that I am just going to paint the paneling and buy and sell with the gruesome stripes on the walls. Now... I am stuck with color combos. I enjoy always like neutral colors. The tans, browns, and sometimes even rather grey maybe? The problem I am have with this, is that when we bought the home going on for a year and a half ago, the hearth rug was brand foreign. It's beautiful mat, and I would really like to preserve it because it runs throughout the entire home, but it is a dark burgandy. I can't seem to be to come up with a color organization that will fit what I am going for. More of a modern theme. Can anyone provide me any suggestions or thoughts on what I could do? Thanks so much!

Answers:    Wood paneling looks like cheap crap painted.

People usually drywall over the paneling. If drywall is not an prospect, try wallpaper. I wouldn't do the normal wallpapering, I would rip it into smaller pieces and stick each piece separately (decopodge), when done right it looks honourable and would hide the lines surrounded by paneling.

As for color matching, try this site out.

Move the sliders to craft the color of your carpet and it will spit out colors that dance with it.
I don't surmise tans, browns or greys would go next to burgundy. You could get your local paint shop to mix a tiny amount of burgundy into white or amazingly light grey paint and do for a time test patch. That's they means of access I'd go, anyway.

By the nouns of it, anything would be an improvement! Good luck!
color combinations:
burgundy or red wine color beside beige or gold ingots (my personal fav)
sky blue and yellow (sounds gross but its not)
black and white (dur)
brown and white
red, white, and orange
sunburn and light pink
blue, purple, and green (crazy colors lol)
mahogany brown, sunburn, dark burgandy

bad let u kno as soon as i infer of more
good luck!

GOD BLESS!
There are indeed papers and panel you can get to put up over that paneling that you (justifiably!) don't approaching. Get tarps to protect your carpet, and choose a quality newspaper that you like. There are even some that are textured surrounded by different patterns. A home development store such as Lowe's or Home Depot should be able to serve.

I confess, I'm not sure how much help I will be beside a modern look: I've always gone near what felt biddable to *me*. But you might try a grey on one wall, and some light brown on the rest. You'll want to do something to pick up on the burgundy within the carpet too, possibly some light stenciling around the top or corners- if you don't hold curtains and furniture with burgundy within it.

Good luck!
