I have to come up with a color scheme for a break room where people come to relax for lunch and breaks.?

Answers:
Yellow is calming, try a deep yellow, not the true color. Trim with earth tones, such as rust, browns, and black trim to show depth. Avoid red. This color races thoughts and it does not calm the eyes.
You can also choose pale blues and greens for your color choices, but you want to avoid the juvenile theme and pick something contemporary. Your accent items should be blurred like a Monet painting with these colors.
If the company likes say-- coffee; go with the new cafe' items that are popular at Wal Mart. Red is a color used but, think= coffee, hurried thought.... run with it.
You could also study the floor and see what already exists with the room and work with it if the budget isn't going to allow carpet/ flooring choices. If the floor is black, use white walls and color accents about the room.
Good luck decorating, and most of all, have fun!

Pale blue and grey. Nothing harsh.
blue is supposed to be a calming, relaxing color
Keep it in the cool tones: pale green and possibly lemon yellow. People will want to come in and chill. In theater and TV they call it "the green room" for a good reason. (It's the room performers wait in before they come on stage.)
Beige and pastels. This is a place to relax and unwind, NO bright garish colors!
