How high should a baseboard be?
Answers:
depends upon the height of the ceiling. baseboards can range anywhere from 3" to 6". If you have normal height ceilings, opt for the smaller baseboard. If you have higher ceilings such as vaulted or ceilings with crown molding, opt for the more substantial baseboards to balance the room.

1 to 2 inch is standard but lately it has been the in thing to do a 4 inch baseboard.

There's no set height for baseboards. They could be an inch or ten. I think we would stop calling it a baseboard if it exceeded a foot, then it would begin to resemble wainscoting. Some trim carpenters are very creative and use several pieces of millwork to create a built up molding. Me - I just use 1"x4" pine.
