I have just bought a house that was built in the 1940's which has all the original fittings including the original bathroom tiles. I am having a shower fitted over the bath and unfortunately this means that some of the tiles will have to be destroyed. Is there any where I can get replacements? They're white and are about half an inch thick with a curbing (quarter circle) that goes along the top edge of the tiled area. I imagine that I'll only need about a dozen of them, but I can't think of where I might find them. Obviously older tiles would be better as they'll match the others around them but I'd be interested in modern alternatives. Thanks.

You can try to look up any specialty tile stores in or near your area. Or, when you take the old tiles out, be very very careful about taking them down. You might be able to salvage the ones you need if you try to remove them without busting them up. I imagine the mortar they were set in isn't anything like the thinset we use today, so you could try prying them up with a putty knife or some similar tool. Good luck!
