Why is there a door?

upon looking at old homes also, i have seen that also. some relators say it was for stairs the cooks and maids to use, as many had small rooms for the help to live in, just sleep. the stairs, and the room may have changed durning the time of the house. i have even found doors with hidden stair caseings. still there. what fun it is to find these wonders of an old house, and ponder over them......right, usually you can do reserch. do it on the familes that have lived in the home, believe me it is a joy to do this. as years havegone by of course this house has seen many changes, sometimes you will find pictures, in your reserch
of the house......i always called it house haunting lol if it has an atic go in it also. look under every thing. oh my you will find many clues..........it's just part of buying history.....have fun with it you will find you answers....I wish i were there with you right now

Maybe there once was a balcony thing there but the tore it down.
Is it possible that the house had stairs on the outside at one time? I've seen plenty of houses with a second-story entrance with stairs. So it could be that the stairs were removed and the siding was redone.
obviously there used to be something there.have seen this before also.with a house that old the balcony or roof that was thiere no doubt didn't make it
Was put there for air mail, that way the mailman didnt have to land.lol. accually there once was a balcony of some sort there at one time, it was probably cheaper to take it down than repair it.

It is for looks to custom look to the house that they did back in the day. I know it really sounds crazy of things that they did back then,but they knew how to build back then better than they do now,and the wood was so much better quality too!1
