I agree with the others on microsued or microfiber couches. They clean up great. I just take a damp sponge and swipe the material. I have 3 cats and that's the best way to get rid of the cat fur and any stains. Also, for some reason, the cats don't scratch that material.

Leather is the most durable material you can buy. I am an interior designer and we sell microsuede to people with kids, pets & messy husbands all of the time. It will clean up like a charm. Do ask before you buy though what the manufacturers warranty and cleaning suggestions are before because they will differ from one manufacturer to the next. If you don't like that look, a really heavy chennille fabric will wear wonderfully. There is a product called fabric sheild or soil shield that should be offered by the person you are buying the sofa from that will help in removing or preventing any stains. If they don't have it, an upholsterer will. I do recomend it if you are worried about staining. Good Luck
