Anyone know how to convert picture windows into small paned ones?
Answers:
don't put lead piping on window it will look bad.
First take a opening window off the hinges so you can experiment with window.
The windows probably has wooden beading to hold glass in so it should be easy to take glass out.
Make up new bars to match windows and fit with small nails and glue or wooden dowel plugs. put new glass in.
The job may be fiddly but would be rewarding in long run. for extra strength fix a metal rod on inside of window across bar. this is done on leaded light windows.
If you have trouble getting the exact profile for the bars you could have it made to measure but there is a high start put cost - may be over £200 but it would be worth it.
alternatively leave the glass in and put bar simulations on back and front of glass. This would be easiest.
Maybe giving up would be the best option.

You can buy lead piping specially for this.

you used to be able to buy lead piping especially for this from (believe it or not) Argos
lots of house come with them and they just are held in by 4 little spring loaded pins into the frame. I would measure my glass area only, go to a window store, look at the installation of the frame. measure how much wood you have exposed on your window to see if you could drill a small hole in it. you should be able to improvise and modify a unit for yourself. order just the replacement unit because they are an option on the windows anyway. if you have to cut it a little, it not brain surgery. worst case would be to trim one end and nail a brad into it, the other end would still be spring loaded. you're clever, go for it.
They look nice but they make window cleaning a pane er I mean pain.
maybe you can paint and use the small like 1 inch size piece of trim or molding that would go on a wall with paneling. I'd say make a frame and glue it on with silicone and do both sides so you cant see the silicone in the middle. paint it first so it doesnt get on the windows, and if you dont like it, i'm sure you could easily remove it and scrape the silicone off with a razor blade.
