Is there another name for a cauldron, (bean pot, cast iron, kettle)?

It is black, cast iron, 36 inches across and 19 inches tall - it used to have three legs on the bottom, it has two knobb holders for a chain on each side (not the kind you would feed a chain through just knobbs that stick out and has an indentation of where the chain should be) I am unable to fine any info on-line or at the liberary on this syle that I have and would like to know some history on it, please help!
