regarding countertops how do you figure out square footage?

a single square foot is a square 12 inches by 12 inches, get a ruler or tape measure out and figure out the length and width!
measure the length by width and then multiply that then you have your answer.. ie: it is 2.5 feet wide by 13 feet long, then the countertop is 32.5 sq feet
Square footage is only used when your buying a solid surface material.If you are buying laminate I.E. formica,that sold by the foot SQUARE FOOTAGE IS MEASURE DEPTH X WIDTH.For example, a typical counter top is 25"deep.But, since I was in the business for 13 years,countertop fabricators will somtimes charge you for a backsplash and build-up edges too. beaware
