What plant should I put in my room?

I live in Iowa. My room's window faces East. I want a plant that has a pretty flower. Can you name any? Oh, and being a teenager I would prefer a plant that isn't very expensive!

African violets have nice flowers and there are many varieties. Orchids are fun, but they take a while to bloom.

I love cactus. Since you're room faces east, you will be getting strong, direct sun in the am. The flowers that you put there will have to be the kind that can stand direct sun light.

Try a bromeliade. They are affordable and last a long time. Also they are virtually indestructable. Does any one have ideas on renovating a kitchen in a side hall colinial house?
