how can I organize my one bedroom?

A few things you can do to get ready for his visit will also make your life alot easier in the long run. As you go thru each cabinet, closet and shelf, make piles to discard and piles to donate. We're all guilty of being packrats saving bits and pieces of things in case we need them later. A good rule of thumb is that if it doesn't fit and you haven't worn it in 6 months or used it in 3 months then you probably never will!
As you do this, invest in those stackable baskets and bins to organize items where they will most likely be used...gift wrap, cards, etc., misc. essential items in the bathroom, first aid box, photographs that need to be put into albums, that kind of thing. There are vaccum bags to seal seasonal clothing and items under the bed. Invest in hangers for belts and ties for the closets. Shoes are easier to manage in a closet if you still have boxes for them...if not, these can be purchased, labeled and stacked on the shelf.
Go thru the kitchen area the same way. If you don't use it, get rid of it. It will create space which will allow you to have room to purchase the other things you want or need later. There are even little carts for the laundry area now that don't take much room if space is a factor. They have a cloth hamper built in with shelves to hold your detergent, etc. If you don't already have one, invest in a caddy for general household cleaning to hold windex, polish, cleaners and disinfectants. Just confining them to a holder makes it look neater and more organized under your counter and will save you time when cleaning as you can now carry it room to room and have everything at hand.
Clean off the tops of things. Too many little chotsky things doesn't look decorative, in a small space it looks cluttered. Pack up about half of them in an inconspicuous area (stackable hatboxes in the corner maybe) and use only a few nice ones here and there and see what a difference it will make. You can keep the extra things and change them out periodically for a new look. Even things like those cute little scatter rugs can make a small place look cluttered.
Last, if you're in a one bedroom, will he be sleeping on a sofabed? If so, a day before he comes in, go ahead and put the linens on. Tuck in the blanket, etc. so it's all ready when it's time to sleep. If there's room in there, one of those rectangular lidded baskets could hold pillows as well as the extra linens when not in use and you could sit a plant on top or even use it for extra seating if covered with a pillow or folded throw.
The biggest thing is to relax and enjoy the visit. He's coming to see you guys...not the apartment. You may even see an occasional smile when he remembers "their" first tiny cramped little space! Have fun!

well, i think you will need some shelves/ cupboards and boxes to put all your stuff..you might want to draw up a plan on where to put your things so as to make things easier...make sure there is space to move around. tidy up the table and make sure there is no undergarments lying anywhere. throw away unwanted things.

Well, it depends what it is you're hoping to organize, but even if you have a lot of stuff, just putting it in decorative boxes will make everything appear more organized. I like the boxes at IKEA:
can you use shoe paint to change the color of a black vinel colored bar[as in drinking bar?]?
