how can i redo carpet staircase with wooden ones?
Answers:
Have you pulled back the carpet? They may be a nice wood already.
If they aren't, you can go to Home Depot and buy new treads, but mostly they only sell oak and that is expensive.
Stairs aren't that straightforward. You have to be careful about adding height to the rise. If you pad each stair with 3/4" of wood, you have to adjust both the bottom and top landings accordingly. If not, you're creating a tripping hazard. All rises should be withing 1/8" of each other, including both the upper and lower landings.

The only way it is going to look real nice is to hire a carpenter. A friend of mine has a handy husband and he attempted to do their stairs. The project didn't turn out like they'd hoped so they ended up carpeting over it again.

It should be wood already underneath, you may need to geta hardwood guy to resand if there's hardwood under, if not, wood composite flooring.
