There are many techniques for increasing the expressiveness of the walls and for making your home a place where you feel at ease. Many neutral tones are associated with natural materials, stone, earth, wood, straw, sand or with artificial materials such as metal, glass, and concrete.
Here are ten household helpful hints for choosing colors and wall covering fabrics to decorate your home:
1. White and neutral tones are an ideal backdrop to make a work of art or tapestry stand out.
2. Neutral tones should be applied when a space is overloaded architecturally, or when we want something to fade into the background.
3. Neutral tones age well so they can be used where you do not redecorate, or touch up, very often; or if our intention is to specifically create an aged effect.
4. Variations on neutral tones are ideal for small rooms.
5. White and neutral tones are a great way of combining different decorative styles as they act as a neutral transition zone between one style and the other.
6. Gray metal or gray concrete, two neutral tones, are especially apt for creating modern ambience with a cutting edge feel.
7. Textured neutral tones, like limestone or temperate paint, are perfect for creating rustic effects.
8. Neutral tones fabrics, carpets, curtains, or tapestries are a great help when decorating because they go well with al the colors.
9. If you want a room steeped in neutral tones to be livelier, you can introduce a few dramatic color touches dark colors, even black, are a good solution.
10. A neutral tone is perfect for painting a wall or doors that you want to be inconspicuous.

Go to IKEA...pick out your favorite bedding set (they are usually cheap) and find a color that matches the bedding to paint the walls. Just make sure it's not too bright so you can keep that sanity!!
green
RED!
SOFT PINK...VERY RELAXING
You can have any colour you like, as long as it's black.
blue for walls
go to any good but cheap stores
try walmart for a comforter set and then what ever color in the comforter is the least get some paint mixed in that color.
If you're on a budget then it sounds bad but go to the local tip, people throw out unwated cans of paint and its free alot of the time to take away, id suggest painting just one wall, the wall your bed is against, three walls painted unless in cream or stone colour will amke it look smaller than it is :) hope this helps
mirrors also open a room up and make it shine :)
sky blue
Use a soothing color like pale aqua or soft green. Don't use anything bright in a bedroom. Aqua and brown are very big in decorating magazines right now.
paint it a nice calming colour like pale blue or lilac
i would go with pastel colours that dont make his bedroom look to out of place but cos you sound like ya need cheerin up i probably go for my favorite colour with a cheep border you can get them very cheep £1 at some shops around here
paint the other walls white. You might be able to find cheap bedding in a supermarket (ASDA, Tesco, something like that).
Paint two of the walls that adjoin a soft pastel- something darkish- mauve ,maybe- take the remaining wall and make it the corner for the little one - any color but paint stick figures on it for a "kid" look
If you like bright colors, go with red or blue or green -- something that would match the Thomas decorations. You could probably find bedding in those colors as well. Or, look more closely at the Thomas decorations and see if there are any other colors in them that you could use -- tan, gray, something more neutral if that's what you like.
you should have two adjoining walls white, thenthe other two can be any color that appeals to you, or picks up a color in your new bedding, the possibilities for paint colors are endless. Be happy in your new room
how about white?then add some wood accents and paint the trim and ceiling in a neutral color.a wallpaper border can also be used and maybe some sponging or stenciling to add color.just a thought.
Why don't you just paint the whole room white and with your budget you can get some really nice bright bed linen, BHS or Next do some lovely stuff. Keep to bright feminine patterns and get a complimenting lamp shade and rug just for your corner.
The less 'busier' it is on the walls the neater it will look and when you need to chill in your corner the room will feel larger.
Good luck and hope you get through it all and come out smiling!
Make yourself a duvet cover for your comforter out of 2 flat sheets. This is the least expensive way to cover your bedding and get an upscale look. And then when you need to wash it you can just wash the cover.
The color I am most fussed with right now is chocolate brown with coral pink. I would get sheets with those colors in a leaf pattern and then choose a color out of the bedding to paint with so it all matches.
Light blue, will subtly match Thomas at the other end and not make the stickers stand out too much!
New bedding, ikea is cheap, or ebay? bargains there! Paint £20 max and bedding is only about £15-£20 should be plenty. May even have enough to dye curtains to match creating a brand new look! Hope it turns out ok!
how sensible, that will certainly clear HIM out of your life, I did same thing, years ago and it does work.
wilkinson do some nice bedding, amnd they sell paint too

Depending on your other colours just go with what works for you. If you like bright do bright if you want calm go there. Wilkinsons have a good range of reasonably priced colours.
Been there myself it is lovely to make a house - YOUR home. Go for it.
Just a warning, try looking into feng-shui colors and see what is calming for sleep. Some colors stimulate and will actually make it difficult to sleep. Here's a link:
