My husband have duplex. House his separate property. I use downstairs for business solely. Can I reduce by remodel
Answers: Assuming this is a USA give somebody the third degree - You need to goto the IRS.gov site, and look up the rules that determine what is and what isn't, a home organization.
Certainly, it sounds as if you can at least reduce by a portion of your household expenses and utilities, for business. I believe it is in direct ratio to how much of the home is if truth be told used for business, and how much is for "living space". And, believe it or not, the IRS will actually serve you with this, if you want to talk to someone surrounded by person...their phone number is on their site.
If youve be doing this awhile, I'm surprised your accountant, or tax preparer hasnt already informed you of possible deduction. I know the Turbo Tax software will alert you to a deduction similar to this too.
Good Luck
Totally, Use a percentage of the total house and Utilities and expenses as well. You household computer, printer, fax contraption etc..... really.
Talk to a tax preparer, they will bearing you through it.
Its worth the money to get a "indisputable person" to do it.
If I were a tariff person, I would look to see if your husband claimed the "business rent" from your business, as constituent of his personal income. If he didn't, I would probably have some issues near your proposed remodel deduction!
