Hot color combos are terribly light blues grounded next to browns or silvers. Very lite greens (so lite you feel them more than see them) work really powerfully with blacks. Look for furniture that can be mixed and matched. Don't buy sets if you can avoid it. This method you can change a piece as you approaching and not feel the stipulation to redo the entire room.
