can i have a wood burning fire / stove in a bungalow that has no fireplace with no chimney. and who fits them?

i have been told that i can have a smoke flue fitted through the roof etc is this also true and what is rough cost.

Answers:
You would first need to check with the council that you can have a 'real' fire since many areas are now smoke-free zones.
You could have the 'chimney' going through the external wall behind the stove and going up the outside of your house. This will most likely be subject to planning permission due to them not being the most attractive things to put on your house!!

Another option would be to run the chimney / flue up the inside of the wall, and out through the roof. Of course, this would be much more costly, since you would have to build a covering structure which would need to provide enough insulation to protect the joists etc from the heat. There are lots of building regulations that would need to be adhered to regarding the huge increase in fire risk.
As for cost, I wouldn't like to speculate, but I guarantee it wouldn't be cheap! It's not worth scrimping with a 'cheap' builder either due to the above factors.

Although, they're nice items to have, they're quite inefficient and very difficult to install in a modern home that wasn't designed to accomodate one. Have you tried looking into gas fires? I was surprised at the massive choice available now, the last fire I bought whas a 'balanced flue'. This means the fire vents straight out through the external wall and doesn't need to have any pipes or anything going up the wall.
Have a look around, you might get a stove with this kinf of vent, but I think you need a full height chimney to comply with regulations as they probably need to be above a certain height, normally to make the chimney 'flow' properly (If the chimney doesn't work properly, the wind will blow down it, making a bonny mess of your sitting room!

Don't think so. Sorry.

Yes its possible but it will cost quite allot and it needs to be built basically like a chimney anyway i think so your house don't go on fire... I mind my old birds dad done it in his sittin room like.
Yes you can fix a flue all together it will cost around £800 try Nickle boilers
If you look in your local phone directory there might be shops that will meet your requirements... The cost of the fire will be your biggest expence, anywhere between £250 upwards, plus the fitting (but there is not a lot to it) you can have a wood burning stove if the wall it is going next to is a gable wall, you can get a hearth to stand the stove on and then vent the flu straight out the back of the stove, through the wall and then up the side of the gable. or depending on the construction of the house, you can if possible build a false chimney to cover the pipe but make sure that the materials are non combustibles. there are lots of good sites on the net that will give you good advice on the size of the fire you will need, you will probably need no more than a 5kw in a bungalow, they get extremely hot...

hope this has helped you.
I'm getting ready to put a wood burner in my basement. Doing this,, it also has to go thru my upstairs and up thru my attic. Now,, what I have learned is you HAVE to use whats called
"Triple Insulated Pipe" in the part going thru your house. Not ness. in my downstairs. I've called my insurance and this is what they recognize. In my area the price is approx. $70.00 per 4' sections. Also you have to buy a "kit" for your exhaust on top of your house,,, make sure your stack clears the top of your home.
I guess the pricing would vary in diff. areas. I also think this is the 6" size piping, not 8".
Hope this helps.
The answer basically is yes. It will be expensive, but if you have the money you can do almost anything.

I'd be interested in whether you go ahead with this project as I also live in a bungalow and want the same.......
it shouldn't be too big a job.go your local building providers they'll surely know someone to fit it
Yes you can have one fitted. Ive seen them on ebay. Price averages 250 for the stove and around £50 for the flue. They supply but don't fit so you'll need to check yellow pages.
There are building regs about where this flue is allowed to be in relation to your windows to make sure you get a builder...
