how to make a buttonhole without a buttonholer?

I cannot locate all the pieces to my machines buttonholer and I know they can be created with out one but I have never had to make any buttonholes. Need how-to's

Answers:
Draw a line where you want the hole, slightly smaller than the button. Use a tight zig zag stitch and go down the sides of the line then make long zig zag stitch across top and bottom. practice on scrap fabric a few times.

Other answers:
Take the two pieces and put them together with some glue and the button will be whole again.

Measure the button that you want use. Cut a hole in the fabric slightly less than the diameter of the button. If you cut the hole too big the button will fall out. Sew a loop stitch around the opening to reinforce it so that the fabric won't tear any farther. Attach the button to the other side of the fabric.
