need to know a fair price for painting ceilings, my measurment is 1987 sq ft dont want to over charge or under
Answers:
I would recomend charging $0.50-$0.75 per sqft. This is approximately the going price in my area as long as they are not cathedral or vaulted ceilings. This, if your week time frame is correct would be approximately $25-$30/hr if you did it in 40 hours. Not bad for spreading paint.

The price really depends on the market that you are in.I can charge $35 per hour appoximately 45 miles from my home but only $25 in my hometown. The best way to find a fair price is to call a large painting contractor for a ballpark estimate over the phone. Then try a handyman. Then look through the ads in the local paper. There is usually an ad with a flat room rate in it. You should be able to get a good idea that way.Don't give your work away.Do the research.Good luck.

The square foot pricing you are reading (1.25 -1.75) are probably room prices. But all pricing is regional. I am in the Southeast and painters here can command anywhere from 1.75 up to 6. per square foot for a whole rom paint job. That would include ceiling, walls and trim, but not repair work. A good paint job would start at around the 3. per foot mark.
However, make sure you are figuring the square footage properly. Example: A 12 x 15 room is 180 square feet x 3. would be $540. for labor to paint all surfaces (repaint only -- new construction would be different). Not the square footage of all surfaces added up. This pricing for a HAND done job using brushes, rollers etc. -- NOT spraying. Spraying although quick is an inferior way of covering with paint and usually fails much sooner than hand applied.
Good luck!
