What can you do with a 3 sided fireplace?

I'm buying a home that has a three sided open fireplace. Very 70's which doesn't bug me too much, but I hear they don't draft well and can really smoke up a room. Are they ways to put in attractive (3 good looking sides) inserts? Encase it in glass doors? What are my options to make it useable? and maybe even good looking?

Answers:
Well, I would want to test it out by starting a small fire in it before I took on any drastic projects. You might also try speaking to a masonry company in your area that builds these type fireplaces or even possibly a wood stove company. Converting to gas might also be a viable option.

Other answers:
watch it from three sides or move from side to side, lol, who knows

build a water feature in it , seal off the chimney
You can always plaster it over and then add whatever design you want as long as it meets the fire code. Or you can tear it down and start from scratch with your own design.
