Do down pillows ever go flat?

Why do people pay more for down pillows? Do they ever go flat like polyester fill? What about down alternative, do those go flat?

Answers:
they can go flat because of loss of feathers, when they're washed, etc...however, if you need to wash them, do it with a couple tennis balls or a pair of shoes to keep them fluffed.
people pay more because they're soooo soft, and some people think that kind of pillow helps them sleep better.
