Help please -- is there a way to stain a porcelain tub to change the color?
Answers:
You can certainly change the color but a stain is pretty much not an option. Stains need to penetrate or react with (acid-type) the surface. Porcelain will not allow either to happen.
You can, however, prep and paint the tub with an epoxy system.
One of the most user friendly products on the market is called Tile-Doc. Clean the tub real well,scuff-up real well with 50 to 80 grit sandpaper, and then just follow the directions on the box.
If you want to get creative, have the paint store provide you with some tint used in a color you like and add a little to Part A before you mix it with Part B. Just be careful not to add too much and mix it real well. You can create a masterpiece!

You can have it re-enameled, in whatever colour you want.

I know that there are companies that will come out and refinish your tub in a different color. I read in a magazine once (can't remember where) that it's better to hire a professional for that kind of job. Good luck!
I've never heard of a stain, but you can use porcelain paint to cover up the colour. You could also consider a fibreglass insert that fits over the old tub, then you just caulk around the walls and floor. It's a more expensive option, but it will look nicer, especially if you own the house.
yea its called spray paint
Home Depot or Lowe's--if you have one near you.
I want to do this to, but I'll be leaving it to the pro's. A neighbor had it done, it isn't to expensive.
