My kitchen is a bright marigold yellow, I want a dark rustic tile, my husband wants a white or beige? Ideas?

Why not bring home samples of the tiles that you each like and see how they look in the room? That is what we did, and it turned out that we both had picked a bad color. We ended up with something completely different than what either of us thought was going to look nice.
Flooring stores will let you sign them out for free. Home Depot will sell individual tiles.

Marigold yellow is very bright. My suggestion is to use the dark tile to tone it down a bit. Plus, you are correct, with a lot of light coming into the room - white wouldn't work. Be careful about the color of the dark tile, though. My suggestion would be to actually paint the walls a lighter, pale yellow and use a darker tile. What color/wood are your cabinets and appliaces?
Is your husband and construction worker or decorator? If he's not - then consider his opinion because you love him, but do what you want. Plus - who will be in there cooking more?

However, on some decorating shows I've seen some great patterns done with light tiles with some kinds of pictures on them set at intervals among the dark.
White is very hard to keep clean, and dark will make your kitchen extremely dark, windows or not. You should always go for a neutral color like beige or cream. Try a marble tile that has a split tone.
How about beige tiles? Too dark with too bright is too much of a contrast. What color is your cabinets?
I've installed thousands of sq. ft. of tile, and painted thousands of gallons of paint. Neither of you are wrong, or right necessarily.
I will advise this however. Since tile is the more expensive, labor intensive, and lasting of the two issues, you might want to project into the future a bit, even deciding on what changes will evolve as you want change at some point. Certainly to change a color of paint will be the easier of the two issues.
If you truly are into the color you have now, you might look at complimentary tile colors to it, by getting samples, or even a color wheel. White or beige is safe certainly, but might become "OLD" faster than the bright yellow. It's a kitchen, not a shower stall or hospital room, and as such can be tasteful (no pun intended) as well as homey.
It's a room you spend a lot of time in. It should invite you, give you a sense of comfort, and a desire to stay rather than exit as soon as possible.
It should also be bright. Natural light is great of course, and should be allowed in as long as it's available.
LOOKING CLEAN has nothing to do with the tile color. White tile can mar, the light grouts certainly can stain and become "dirty" looking, and in todays contemporary kitchens, deep shades, striking contrasts, can add a very "rich" look to a room that is basically for utility purposes.

I like your idea better. I think the dark tile will not only tone down the color but make the room look cozy. You could use the beige or white and then add accents in red. Yellow,white or beige and red look great together and the red creates warmth. Just yellow and white alone will look cheerful, but I always go for cozy over cheerful.
Can the two of you compromise? Maybe a rustic tile in a darker beige than what he really wants but lighter than what you were thinking. A drk beige will counter the brightness but not be so dark that he is thinking it looks dirty.
i'd go dark, brick-red or terracotta & you could do a mexican colour scheme against the yellow with red/green/blue accents. light tile will show every little piece of dirt. your husband probably doesn't wash the floor. :)
I think the rustic would go better with the yellow. Would give it a more vintage look. And also won't show the dirt as much. I have all white cabinet and floors in my kitchen. I hate it. Seems like all I do is cleaning walls, floors and cabinets.
