Can you stain teak wood and then put polyurethane on it? I tried to do this but table turned a yellowish color

Answers:
Red cedar, teak, and other woods share this same oily characteristic. It is a unique property that makes the woods resistant to water, insects and rot. Your concern that this natural oil will repel finishes is correct. Oil is a consistent nightmare in wood finishing, and if not handled right can cause lifting or blushing of many finishes.
Theres a way around it. To work with the oil by using another oil-based finish. Tung oil is a perfect product for this application. It gives a nice hand-rubbed and at the same time protects the wood.
Tung oil can be called teak oil, danish oil... and comes in many formulations from just plain linseed oil to formulations that have urethane resins in them for added protection.

teak has too much natural oil in it.

Try another shade of stain, it may be impossible to get around this. Never worked with teak, but I have read it was very difficult to work with. Good Luck
