How do you install ceramic tile as a backsplash around outlets?
Answers:
when cutting the tiles keep them the same size as the box not any bigger plugs must sit on tile. make sure you leave enough room that the plug screws can make it into their respective hole. "that is always on over-site". you must remove the plugs first. Make sure breaker is off lock it out or tape it over to ensure noone turns breaker back on.SAFETY FIRST the plug goes over the tile not the other way around if you do not remove plugs first plug will be below tile surface and you will not be able to move plug flush with plate it will also be against code. remember power off, tile hole size of outlet box, big enough to clear screw holes but small enough for plug to sit on. reattach plug, tape around plug is alway good idea, screw plug back on slowly, replace plate, turn power back on.

I like to use a massonay bit in my roto tool and "zip" a hole the approximate size of the electrical box. If your box is not flush with the tile, you may be in violation of local electrical code. Concider using a box extender.
The face plate will cover a large area, thus an "exact fit" is not required. Besure to clamp the tile while cutting and put on safety equipment.
This project can be a lot of fun, relax, take your time, and have fun.
