No it isn't. Also, those units that are made of fiberboard or some such stuff with a laminate over it aren't either. Real wood is the best. We had sagging bookshelves in our bookcases with the fake stuff. We bought solid wood bookcases that we stained ourselves (to save some money) and they're great. We've got a ton of books and they hold them all and stay straight. I would think the plastic stuff wouldn't be any better.
