I have SO been there! You have to prepare yourself in your mind before you start that you are going to work on one project start to finish. Go slowly and don't drive yourself crazy trying to achieve too much at one time-that will have the opposite effect. You will get a lot more done if you concentrate on finishing one before you start another. Ex. If you are remodeling your living room. Take the trim wood down, put it somewhere and do NOT think about stripping it yet. Ok that's one project done-count it as one project...next step (possibly) stripping wall paper. Start stripping, don't think about painting or wall papering yet and do NOT look at the next room and think that you should strip that one too...think of one room at a time, one project at a time. You will accomplish things trust me. The whole reason I got in the "everything is started, nothing is done" mentality was because I let it get overwhelming. Be patient with yourself. Good luck, I bet it will look fantastic!

dang, i can go on and on about this. i too own an old house. check out my remodeling pics on my site.

u gotta prioritize em by necessity. if the plumbing sux, work on that first, etc. get the thing livable, than likable, than loveable. know what i mean? leave the cool remodeling, tearin down walls for much later. get it so wen u walk in the plaster from the ceilings wont kill ya.

gud luck. depending on ur skill level, it can be so much fun too. i love it. stay in touch, wud luv 2c ur progress.

do one thing at a time like my mother did...old houses are nice if they can be kept up
Had a friend in Mn. that bought a gorgeous old house and was overwhelmed not only with the amount of work that needed to be done but the expense. Advised him to check with the county historical society and sure enough it was old enough to qualify for renovation money and he also got it registered..there is a thought.
well take out some time on weekdays and holidays and plan to complete the work over a period of 12 months.take one room complete fully then proceed.sell unwanted scrap to make it look tidy and bright
Put all your projects on paper...organize them logically (what needs to be done first) in a list 1-100 if necessary...DO.

Give yourself a break; an old house is very overwhelming when one project dovetails into another with seemingly no end in sight! Chin up, darlin', it CAN be done, with a little planning and fore-thought first...

(And if things get too annoying, you can always hire a contractor, go to Disneyworld for a few days--or weeks, months, years, etc.--and come back when it's finished... assuming you are fabulously wealthy, that is.)

=)
One room at a time, that way the mess is confined to one area and you dont get overwhelmed.
Then again I still havent tiled my shower, I cant decide what colour and I have stopped. But atleast its only one bathroom for now and my kitchens is done.
Make a list, as you finish a job mark it off, the more items that get marked off the more motivated you will be to get the rest finished. You can also give yourself small rewards for completing the job, a dinner out once the living room is painted, new throw rugs when the kitchen floor has been retiled etc...
Well the way I do it is take pics of before I work on it then take pics of after. I appreciate it more and it keeps me doing more because I cant wait to see it all done.
Hire a professional. That is the best thing to do to achieve what you want and be happy with the results.
