Blotchy primer over new drywall.....?

I replaced some sections of drywall with new drywall. I finished mudding everything up and put on my first primer coat.
The primer coat is really, really transparent. I can see the old paint, mud, and new drywall almost as if there was not primer at all...Has anyone else had this experience? How many coats of this stuff do you put on....the can said one coat.

Answers:
You are probably using a p.v.a. primer if so,the transparency is normal.
One coat is good, two is better. If you don't like the finish try using an acrylic primer.good luck.

Other answers:
you either applied it too thin,,or poor primer....give another coat or use --x terminater,, its a primer and stain blocker !! good luck.....
