How do you extend a stand up shower drain?

i have a stand up shower that i remodeled and it is a fully tiled shower. The tile and grout are exposed above the floor level due to the hot mopping that was done. The cap for the shower drain is below the surface and the edge of the tile is uneven and exposed with grout and tile edge. The contractor states there is nothing he can do about it but someone else told me that there is a way to extend the shower drain. Does anyone know any nfo on this. I'd really appreciate it? Thanks.

Answers:
I put a false floor in my shower because the original floor cracked.

To connect the drain I removed the old drain cover. I used a piece of PVC as a bridge between the old drain & the new.
