Are sunscreen roller shades really a good solution for the home?

Have you considered interior shades or maybe even tinting the windows? Those might work, too...

It worked on the outside of the windows and you control it from inside, the levers open and close & when they're closed, it shuts out nearly all the light. It will also help with your electric bills as it provides extra insulation.

first, which one you don't like the most...the sunlight or the heat it produces? if the sunlight u are avoiding, cheaper alternative without touching the present glass is a retractable awning. it also helps when it rains and u want some air coming in. if the heat that u don't like, try searching for coated glass that reduces the uv passage but not the clearness of the view. it's going to cost dear if that's the case. good luck.
Yes they can be good solutions. If you want to save money you can by window film made for cars in the automotive section of most stores. There are also two way mirror film you can see out but no one can see it. If all you want is to just keep direct sunlight from coming in an outside awing can work without changing the view.
