Any ideas for a bar top?
Answers:
There are some really cool looking products out there for counter tops including granite, marble, polyestor, and acrylics(the last two are the cheapest). I've seen one kind that can be backlit and looks wicked awesome(There's a bar I know that has it in cherry red - SWEET!!)
Don't forget you might want a sink down there too. There are alot of sizes and materials they're made out of.
If you need some ideas, just cruise the web, or Google something like 'bar top material'
Hope you have fun with the rec room!

Thousands of different metal bottle tops?
Granite is very cool. Hardwood is beautiful. Marble tile is very nice. Depends what you want to spend. Go to a home decorating (carpet, flooring, countertops) store and ask for some inspiration.
Well if you collect anything, that always makes nice conversation. Like beer caps, labels, cards, pictures, matchbox cars, stamps, etc... router out about a 1/4 of an inch off the top of the bar surface, leaving a lip around the edge, lay whatever you desire down, and pour the thick lacquer on top of that. They have it at craft stores or home remodeling (lowes, home depot, etc..) looks good and like I said, makes for great conversation. Another good idea is old comic book covers, or old playbills, and handouts from sports gatherings.
You could use tinted concrete. It will look cool and you wouldn't have to worry about it getting any damage.
Since you're turning this into your rec room, follow the theme of the room. If it's all about weights and working out, take ideas from the decor at the gym...chrome, black leather, mirror tiles behind it, glass shelves, etc. If it's all about the big screen TV, ideas from the old movie houses...or take your cue from the local sports bar if kicking back and watching the game is more your style. We are soon going to be using the old "Cheers" set to create the area we want. The tables can be used for Friday Night Poker and I'd like to see the bar itself all in highly polished wood with brass footrails and appointments and a hanging glass rack to reflect the light. Have fun with it. If you choose something that reflects your personality and interests, you can't go wrong!
