Is it OK to install a marble floor in a kitchen?

All the folks who answered that it will stain and its slippery when wet! are winners.. Use a Travatine 18' tile it looks like marble but is sealed so it won't stain as easily. Home Depot has it on sale sometimes.. 4 - 18' tiles run about $18-$21.

I suppose you could put it anywhere you wanted but do you realize how easily marble is stained? Drop one spoonful of spaghetti sauce and likely the stain will never come out.
I wouldn't. Marble stains easily, from water grease or food, and is cold, and very slippery when wet. It's also really expensive. There are plenty of "marble-like" ceramics that don't have any of these problems. Look around before you decide on real marble.

marble is very slippery. also it takes preparation to put it over a wooden subfloor to stop it from cracking at the joints from movement

Is it possible, yes. Is it practical, absolutely not. Marble is beautiful. It is also one of the softest stones. It can stain, scratch, and chip. For this reason, it is more recommended for bathroom floors or for formal dining areas. You do not want to put this in an area that is going to get alot of foot traffic. If you do put marble in the kitchen on the floor, take heed. It is a VERY SOFT STONE. If you have to have it, use a tumbled marble. This will have enough texture to take your eye off the scratches. Just remember to use a good stone sealer on this product. Get some help from a professional flooring dealer in your area. Ask alot of questions and make sure they sell alot of this product. If they don't, they may not know what products to sell you for maintenance. This is very important!
