When A house is built with a cast iron tub they put the tub in possision than apply the drywall. Two way to get it out, 1, remove enough drywall to allow removal or 2. and this is the one where you will definatly need hearing protection. you must break it up either with a jack hammer of a sledge hammer. They don't break up easy and it is definatly labor intensive. Oh if you opp for the first method be aware that the tubs are heavy so protect yourself. I might mention at this point that there are companies that specalize in refinishing old cast iron tubs so that they look new. You might want to look into this option.

with lots of help. It took 3 people to get the one out of my house. once we got it to stand on end, we dollied it out.
Just be real sure that all the plumbing in disconnected, trim and plaster is completely removed from the lip of the tub and get some strong men. After a few hits with a sledgehammer you should see that it is 'loose' from the floor and walls. Then slide it out if of the wall area if possible (remove the toilet and/or sink if needed - its worth it.) or lift on one end and DO NOT DROP IT. I have seen them snap 2x4s and completely destroy plumbing when they fall.
sale the tub here in Ontario people like old tubs with craw feet so give it away if persons willing to remove tub.like everyone say you can bust it with sledge what a shame that would be
