Kilz will cover anything. Use that as a base coat. Follow with the paint of your choice. I think camel might tone down the pink marble. Good luck.
Kilz Primer use low odor it costs twice as much (20.00) but worth it, put on two coats. Also plan on throwing out the brushes and rollers when finished!
You MUST use primer! Do not try to attempt to paint unless you primer over that wonderful pink first. TIP: Use a tinted primer if your new paint will be dark.
use an oil based primer and stain blocker. 2 coats such as Kilz's, then pait 2 coats of any color you like, a gream color will diminish the pink marble
Go to the hardware store there are people in the paint department who can tell you what paint covers well usually my understanding is there is a white paint that covers well before putting on the base color. If you have a art program you can take a photo of your area then try different colors in the photos with the pink marble they also have some programs for doing such things but I have a good art program I can change colors around with a little work. There are lots of tricks for that stuff a fast one is to take some sort of stencil type paint applicator and paint a pattern of a different color over it. Also sponge painting or wrinkled cloth painting over the pink with a different complimentary color or even using a feather duster over it...but try a small section first or do it in an art program. It is cheap it is easy to do and interesting often and if you pick the right color if you get tired of that you can paint over both of them afterwards. I believe you just need to tone it down a bit. There are also tricks to things like with colors. Red is neutralized by green to some extent a white paint with a bit of green added to it may help cut any bleed through colors but I would pick a small area to check it out first. Do not want to go from OMG to how disgusting.
OK, you need to go get some dark neutral color paint, like brown, put on two or three coats of that, then get some Kilz primer, apply three coats, than paint the color you desire. I can't help with the marble without taking it out. sorry.
Go to a specialty paint store instead of a discount retailer. Get the primer they recommend for covering intense colors.
I don't know what goes through some people's minds when they paint. Or maybe it was what they smoke. All of the fixer-uppers I look at have at least one pink wall somewhere in the house. It's pretty gross.
My Mom's house has a couple of rose colored walls in the livingroom. The other two are bright white. She made it look very nice by decorating with forest green carpet and burgundy recliner. Her couches are camel and she has the same green, burgundy and white colors accenting with drapes, pillows, candles and picture frames. It really looks nice.
Gidday,
Some good advice from faerieeeiren. But if you are thing of doing that type of painting it's a real bugger to sand off if you want to go back to smooth walls. But the effect does look great.
A handy tip for keeping your paint brushes like new is when you have finished washing them soak them in a strong solution a fabric softener 1 part fabric softener 3 part water for about 1 &1/2 hours, squeeze the brushes out, then wrap a paper towel around them. The fabric softener keeps the bristles smooth and soft and the paper towel keeps the bristles straight while they dry.
The others are right Kilz primer is the only answer, use the low
odor because it's very strong, but it works, 2 coats is fine. For
the marble, try getting a hold of a stone specialist in your area,
marble needs to be sealed so it won't stain, there are a number
of great colors out for concrete stain, have them advise you on
the best color so you get the end result your looking for. You
may have to strip the marble first, be sure to take a sample of
the pink with you. Granite, marble and concrete are hot for
kitchen so ask a pro in that field and the can help you find a
good stone company.
Just using 2 coats of white emulsion over the top of the pink should do it, that is assuming the pink paint is also water based.
If the walls are matt, then it is an emulsion and can easily be painted over. If it has any kind of sheen or shine to it then it is probably an oil based paint, in which case you will have to use an oil based primer followed by whatever colour you choose. As the marble floor is also pink, I suggest a light grey on the walls, it is a good complementary colour to pink and won't make the area look too dark. Unless the foyer and upstairs hall are huge, it is always best to use a light colour to 'open them up'.
Hope this helps.
