I've been watching a lot of Home and Garden channel lately, and all you have to do is go to home depot and ask for a paint that would be best on tiles. If it's not going to look professional, you may even want to make it look like you intended to do that by turning it into an art project (putting some designs on the tile). I do know for sure that your problem can be fixed without re-tiling.

Hmmm... tile is shiny.. and VERY hard to paint. The easiest thing is to live with it until you have time to rip it out. As far as I know the tiles have to be painted then fired in a khelm. (i'm not sure how to spell that word so please forgive me)

Actually I think you can paint the tiles. I've watched several decorating shows where they change the bathroom or kitchen tiles with paint or with decals made specifically for that surface. Go into any paint store or paint department and talk to the clerk about what you need and they should be able to help you.
We are getting ready to paint our kitchen counters and the guys at Lowes told us to use a primer paint called KILZ first. It is supposed to be good for surfices that paint normaly wont stick to. They have it in most hardware stores in the paint section and it has the directions right on the can.
There is a tile paint product available in Home Depot (and similar)-the brand name escapes me, but I have used it. Call one (HD) and ask for someone in the tile department to see if they have it-not all of them do.You need to follow the instructions to a "T" however. They also have tile "appliques" that I have found in the U.K. but not here (U.S.)-go on line or call some tile suppliers here.
You may have to find a primer for the tile first.Para Paints and Benjamin Moore have latex/alkyd primers for tile and then use an Eggshell enamel , as it is durable.Hope this helps! I am a regisred Interior designer
try the paint markers available in craft department at wal-mart, craft stores. They are permanent and will adher to tile. Also, they are easy to use for freehand work. I'm not sure how long it will remain under hard use, though...
there is aproduct available from your local lowes or home depot called "tough as tile" its a great cover up paint for tile, and the only thing that sticks well. take it from a maint super, it will work. just follow the prep instructions properly!. good luck
you are in LUCK !!!
