The pool is more expensive and harder to maintain. I personally would get tired of having a pool, but never tire of a hot tub. You can always find someone else's pool to jump in for free, but how often do you run across a free community hot tub?

I've had both and prefer a pool. you can always soak in a hot bath tub, but pools are lots of fun for lots of people.
